Vision and Strategy
Dundee Rugby Club Strategy 4 of 6

4. Vision and Strategy

Over the last year, the club has been developing and starting to implement a 5 year vision. This vision is built around the needs of all our stakeholders; members, volunteers, sponsors, The SRU, schools, Universities, and our spectators and customers.

Our outcomes from this strategy are written as 5 Recognition Events (REs). These are “show me” pictures of our future, what you can expect to see in 5 years’ time. This future picture can be seen as an animated video here, or you can read the REs below.

RE1
Visiting teams (all ages) regularly say to the President "I cannot recall ever having seen such a happy club with a positive and engaging community on and off the pitch, and range of great facilities including on and offline."

RE2
An SRU representative visits our club and says "I wish every club in Scotland had a sustainable coaching programme (players have clearly bought in to) and succession planning to secure the future of the club, long term, as good as yours, that surpasses all our SRU requirements."

RE4
Players, Volunteers, Members, and sponsors tell us regularly that they love all the stuff they get for their membership/sponsorship, including social events, the quality of these, and recommend others to join.

RE7
Regulators are happy with our compliance and contribution towards the development of Rugby in Scotland.

RE8
The president regularly hears members (of all ages) in the clubhouse talking about the activities they are involved in that retain the history of their old club and talking and laughing about the victories, achievements, and successes the new club brings individuals, teams, and the club.

More on the development of our strategy

Where are REs 3,5 and 6 I hear you ask? RE3 has merged with RE4 during the planning process and REs 5 and 6 have become tipping points on the road to the other Recognition Events. This is all laid out in our backcast plan for you to see. You can see an up-to-date copy of the Dundee Rugby Club backcast plan attached below.

This backcast plan was built by starting at our Recognition events in the future and asking what happened before that. This process finds us the fastest route to our desired future and avoids an explosion of detail you normally get from forward planning techniques.

The tipping points are written as outcomes we need to achieve to deliver our REs. This is different from traditional planning methods that have tasks, that may or may not deliver the desired outcome.
