Building Our Future at Alloway Place

Building Our Future at Alloway Place

Stephanie Craig

A new chapter for Dundee Rugby Club and our community

The redevelopment of Alloway Place is one of the most ambitious and exciting projects in Dundee Rugby Club's history. While the journey has been a long one, significant progress continues to be made as we work towards creating a modern, sustainable home for rugby and the wider community.

Dundee Rugby Club was formed in 2019 through the merger of Dundee High Rugby Club and Morgan Rugby Club, bringing together two proud rugby traditions with a shared vision for the future. Since then, the club has continued to grow, now supporting 20 teams and providing rugby opportunities to more than 200 children every week.

Our ambitions extend far beyond the touchline. The club has become increasingly embedded within the local community, working with schools, community groups, and local partners to promote wellbeing, inclusion, and opportunity. Through our school programmes alone, we have supported approximately 1,600 young people, delivering hundreds of rugby sessions and fixtures across the city.

As the club has grown, so too have the demands on our facilities. The current clubhouse is no longer fit for purpose, changing facilities are under increasing pressure, and we have simply outgrown our existing space. To continue serving our members and community effectively, investment in Alloway Place is essential.

Our Vision
The redevelopment aims to create a facility that will:

  • Establish Dundee Rugby Club as a regional rugby hub, supporting participation from grassroots through to performance levels.
  • Remove traditional barriers to participation and improve accessibility.
  • Strengthen our presence within the Linlathen community.
  • Provide a welcoming venue for community events, activities, and social initiatives.
  • Create modern facilities capable of supporting future growth across all sections of the club.

Progress to Date
The project has already reached several important milestones:

  • Work to convert the club to charitable status has commenced, helping unlock future funding opportunities.
  • A number of potential facility designs have been developed and are being evaluated.
  • Discussions continue around the possibility of securing adjacent land to maximise the site's long-term potential.
  • Fundraising planning is underway, with charitable status expected to play a key role in accessing grants and external funding.
  • An interim plan is being developed to address immediate facility pressures while longer-term redevelopment progresses.

Looking Ahead
There is still plenty of work to do before the first spade enters the ground, but the vision is clear. The redevelopment of Alloway Place is about creating more than a rugby clubhouse. It is about building a community hub that will serve current members, future generations of players, local schools, and the wider Dundee community for decades to come.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported the project so far. Your feedback, enthusiasm, and commitment continue to help shape the future of Dundee Rugby Club.
