In this week's Club Communications, we're celebrating Women and Girls in Sport Week, so make sure your young female leaders have applied to the Youth Panel before the 8 October deadline.
Elsewhere, catch up on the news from our President, Colin Rigby, in his newsletter for October.
President's newsletter - October 2024
As we move from summer into autumn, we welcome the start of a new rugby season both domestically, professionally and internationally. This season promises to be filled with excitement, challenges, and opportunities for growth both on and off the field. I wish you, and your club, best wishes for the season ahead.
With the season underway congratulations to our woman’s national team on their two Vodafone Series victories and reaching 5th in the world rankings. I wish Bryan, Rachel and the squad well as they embark on defending their WXV2 title in South Africa over the coming weeks, having started with an opening win against Italy.
After a successful summer tour to the America’s the men’s national team return to Scottish Gas Murrayfield to take on Fiji, South Africa, Portugal, and Australia, as well as, an A fixture against Chile. Whilst it is always a pleasure to welcome visiting unions to Scottish Gas Murrayfield I know how much this means to our friends in Portugal and Chile to play at the home of Scottish Rugby – good luck to Gregor and the squad.

If you are 16-24 years-old and are interested in becoming a young leader in rugby, we want to hear from you.
Make sure you fill out the application form before the deadline of 5PM on Tuesday 8 October, 2024 passes. The application form should take about 25-30 minutes to complete.

Through a collaborative approach to ensure that every clubhouse in Scotland is served by a potentially life-saving defibrillator, funding has been secured, thanks to Hearts + Balls, to augment the cost of these vital pieces of equipment.
There will be more information to come but for now, if your club would be kind enough to fill out the below questionnaire, that would allow us to progress the project.
Help celebrate Scottish Women and Girls in Sport week
Scottish Rugby is partnering with Active Scotland to make this year’s Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week (30 September–6 October) the best yet! With the theme of leadership, we are aiming to highlight inspiring role models and increase participation.
Join in by following the content on Scottish Rugby channels, and by creating your own. We are encouraging all clubs to collaborate on three key areas:
Let's work together to elevate visibility and accessibility for women and girls in sport!
Keep your child safe in sport week
We all want children and young people to enjoy taking part in sport – and parents play a key role in that.
This is a national campaign run by the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (NSPCC CPSU) and aims to raise awareness of the important role parents play in keeping their child safe and happy in sport.
Each October a focus week is held to launch new resources for parents and bring messages to life with stories from parents, young people, athletes and coaches. This week of action takes place between October 7 and 11.
This year’s campaign revolves around hosting 'Team Huddle' events - fun and informal gatherings that brings together everyone involved in the sporting community to raise awareness and create meaningful discussions around safeguarding.
A Team Huddle can be part of an existing event, such as a club meeting, or it can be its own standalone event designed to bring everyone together.
Free Team Huddle Event Packs are available from the CPSU website which include a variety of resources to help spark conversations about safeguarding.
