We received a special story from Jack, who is the Tartan Touch lead at Moray UHI, and wanted to share it with the community.
Moray UHI led a number of inclusive sessions with young people this season. Jack said:
"They absolutely loved the sessions and their lecturers couldn't believe how accessible and simple the game was.
"Thank you for giving us the opportunity to participate in Tartan Touch. We have some exciting plans over the summer holidays with some summer sessions for kids, with students taking the lead on coaching.
"The whole programme has been so beneficial to our students!"
Player registration for season 2024/25
Scottish Rugby is updating the data collected on SCRUMS, our player registration system.
Adult players were contacted at the start of July requesting they log in to SCRUMS and confirm their registration information. This includes confirmation they have read, and will comply with, various regulations and policies that govern the game in Scotland.
Adult players that have not completed this step will be unavailable for teamsheet selection in SCRUMS and therefore, unable to play in Scottish Rugby competitions next season (2024/25). Please note, this only applies to adult players.
In order for clubs to monitor this situation in SCRUMS, there is a red exclamation mark (!) next to any player that has not yet completed the task. There is also a filter at the top of the player screen called ‘Confirmed Registration’ which allows clubs to filter on all those players who have not yet completed the task. That list of players can then be downloaded to a spreadsheet if required.
Please encourage your players to log in and complete player registration for season 2024/25 if they have not already done so.
Year 1 of Phase 6 of the Scottish Rugby CashBack programme has seen the successful addition of many new communities, as well as the further development of our returning schools.
Since August 2023, the Partnership and Project Officer team, along with our Development Officers, have collaborated with schools to deliver the practical elements of our programme.
These include CashBack Community Rugby, the Developing Player Programme, and our Schools of Rugby. Additionally, the team has continued to offer off-field elements, providing young people with skills development and qualifications, including Scottish Rugby qualifications in coaching and officiating, and modules from Education Through CashBack.
Check out the case studies here.
These workshops are for both coaches and players in the U15-18 male and female age brackets. Coaches will be invited to come along with several players from their teams and coach a carousel of activities from previous workshops under the watchful eye of our expert educators. Our educators will provide live feedback to players on technique and to coaches on their craft so that both will go back to their environments with a better understanding of what makes a strong scrummager and how to develop these skills. The activities will be fun and engaging for the players and will put their strength and technique to the test.
It is encouraged that at least one coach for each club comes with at least 3 players to get the full benefit of the workshop on the night and beyond back into your environments. If you have any questions, please reach out to paul.braithwaite@sru.org.uk.
