The 2025 Tayside Kings and Queens of the Sevens series officially kicked off this weekend at Kirkcaldy, with both our Dundee Rugby Club men's side and Dundee Valkyries women's side in action.
While neither team progressed out of the pool stages, it was a solid start to the series with plenty of positives to take forward. The women's squad picked up 2 points toward their respective standings and the men picked up 1 point — a great foundation as the tournament moves into the next stages.
The men's team battled through a busy pool schedule, finishing with one win and three losses on the day. Meanwhile, the women's team secured one win and two losses across their matches, showing strong attacking moments and good resilience throughout.
A real highlight of the day was seeing Dundee representation all over the later stages of the competition.

With several player shortages due to injuries and withdrawals, almost the entire Valkyries squad were picked up by other semi-final teams to continue their involvement and into the final — a testament to the strength and versatility of our players. We also had Dundee players featuring prominently in the men’s final, flying the club flag right to the end of the tournament.

Overall, it was a good first outing and a great launch into the month ahead. Next stop: Howe of Fife Sevens next Saturday!
A huge thanks to Kirkcaldy Rugby Club for hosting a brilliant event and to all our players, coaches, and travelling supporters.
