Last night marked the 3rd year of Dundee Rugby's Hall Of Fame Dinners and it was indeed a very special and important night for Dundee Rugby. 3 of Dundee Rugby's legends were proposed and welcomed into the hall of fame.
Tom Smith and Ian Rankin are legends in both Scottish Rugby and Dundee Rugby and have left huge legacies in the rugby world. It was amazing to hear the testimonies from Tom Smith's nomiee, Tom Dymock, Tom Smith's family and Ian Rankin's nominee Bruce Aitchison and also Ian Rankin himself.
We also got to meet and welcome the amazing Debbie Lochhead into our hall of fame. Debbie is a Scotland Women's Rugby and Dundee Rugby legend and it was such a honour to meet her last night. It was amazing to hear about Debbie's journey into the rugby world, presented to us by our very own Erin Davie. Debbie started playing rugby in 1990 and in 1994 played for Scotland in their very first women's world cup. She has been and continues to be a huge inspiration for women rugby players and does so much work to promote and build women's rugby around the world. Debbie and her wife Janet formed Strathmore Women's rugby team, which we thank them for giving us our local derby team and growing the womens game locally, she continues to be a huge supporter of all teams across Tayside. It was amazing to hear how much she accomplished as a female rugby player throughout the 1990s and onwards and how much she is continuing to help build the Women's game.
