Sunday, 7th May, saw our Junior Valkyries travel to Glenrothes for the 1st round of the Caledonia Midlands 7s. Dundee joined Stirling County RFC, the Kelpies Girls Rugby and for the first time Alloa Rugby Club. The under 14’s were looking forward to their first taste of 7s.

It was a familiar opponent for the first game as the Valkyries went against Stirling County. Stirling took an early lead with two scores but some fantastic offloading saw the teams equal as time was running out. Unfortunately, Stirling managed to cross the line with no time left for a hard fought 6-5 win.

The Mini-Valks, after a two game break, returned to the field to play Alloa for the first time. There was some outstanding rugby on show and the passing was probably the highest quality of the day! 8-2 was a strong result for the girls and there was some amazing scores in there!

In the last group game of the day Dundee faced off against the Kelpies who have probably been our most regular opponent this year! This match followed the game against Alloa immediately so the fitness levels of the squad were tested fully! It was an exciting game as scores were exchanged with some really good long range trys (which wouldn’t have helped the tiredness levels!). In the end, after a great hit by Libby and a steal from Kloey the ball was fed to Keira who scored the tying points with the last play of the game to secure their place in the final.

Their opposition; Stirling for the cup. The bravery shown in the tackles was outstanding with everyone getting the shoulder in! Khalie in particular drew gasps from the large crowd with a monstrous hit! In the end, the game proved a match too far as Stirling were able to draw away in the second half, despite some well crafted scores by the Junior Valkyries.

A huge thank you to the travelling support of Parents who made the touchline a loud pro-Valkyries area! A huge well done to the team for finishing as runners up in their first 7’s tournament. Onwards to next weekend at Perthshire Rugby
