
Dundee U14 40 – 39 Strathendrick U14
Game 1 of the day, Sunday 4 October, at Stirling
First half
Dundee couldn't have asked for a better start. Brodie kicked off, and Elizabeth won the ball and ran straight through to score the first try of the match between the posts, adding the conversion herself for 7–0.
It didn't take long for the second. Rachel picked up and set off for the line, chased hard by Strathendrick, and touched down between the posts. Elizabeth converted again: 14–0.
The next spell was hard fought, with Merida, Savannah and Brodie all making good carries before a knock-on halted the attack. Elizabeth then won the ball back and fed Beau, who ran the length of the pitch to score an amazing try under the posts. Elizabeth's third conversion made it 21–0.
Strathendrick refused to give up and began to dominate possession. Despite great tackling from Mabel, Elizabeth and Savannah, they worked the ball through many hands to score twice, with both conversions striking the woodwork. A third Strathendrick try was ruled out when the ball was dropped in front of the posts, but they got over shortly before the break. Half time: Dundee 21 – 15 Strathendrick.
Second half
Strathendrick came out strongly, scoring in the corner despite Dundee tackling on the line, then added a converted try to take the lead 26–21.
Dundee responded superbly. A series of excellent passes, despite several high tackles, ended with Mabel crossing for a try after great support play from Elizabeth, Rachel and Brodie. Brodie converted to put Dundee back in front 28–26.
Then came one of the moments of the match. Elizabeth wrestled the ball free and passed to Merida and Rachel, and Rachel ran it all the way up the pitch to score under the posts. Brodie's conversion just missed.
Strathendrick hit back with a converted try to keep it tight, but Dundee had the answer. Brodie and Beau moved the ball quickly and Savannah broke through to score under the posts (38–34), with Elizabeth converting for 40–34.
Strathendrick kept attacking right to the end. Despite strong tackling from Elizabeth, Savannah and Brodie, they scored under the posts in the final moments, but the conversion was missed and Dundee held on.
Result
Final score: Dundee 40 – 39 Strathendrick. A brilliant win in a real end-to-end game, with strong defence and some outstanding running tries.

Dundee U14 36 – 38 Stirling U14
Game 2 of the day, Sunday 4 October
[b]First half[/b]
Stirling made a fast start and scored early under the posts, converting to lead 7–0. Dundee hit back quickly when Astrid made a great run and Merida, with little support around her, carried it over just right of the posts. Ronnie added the conversion to level at 7–7.
A strong kick helped Stirling back in front at 14–7, but Dundee answered straight from the restart. Brodie picked up and ran nearly the length of the pitch, and as she was taken down she handed off to Savannah, who finished under the posts. Soon after, from a Dundee scrum, Brodie made another hard run and again found Savannah, who scored her second to put Dundee ahead 17–14.
The best try of the half came next. Savannah gathered a long Stirling kick and ran it back, passing to Beau, and the ball went through several pairs of hands before Rachel finished on the right: 22–14 to Dundee.
Stirling responded with a try under the posts after some loose Dundee tackling (22–19). Elizabeth made a blistering run for the line, backed up by Rachel and Beau, but Stirling held firm. Just before the break, Stirling broke through for a converted try to lead 26–22 at half time.
Second half
Dundee started the half perfectly. Mabel won the kick-off and fed Beau, who scored under the posts almost immediately. Ronnie converted to make it 29–26 to Dundee.
Stirling came back hard. Despite a big tackle from Elizabeth, they held possession and scored (31–29), then added another converted try to lead 38–29. Dundee kept fighting, with Beau making a quick run and Elizabeth going over under the posts and converting her own try to close the gap to 38–36.
Dundee's final attack was the most exciting of the match. Great tackling from Savannah won the ball back, and Elizabeth, Ronnie and Mabel all carried before the ball reached Ronnie again. She raced for the line but the ball was knocked on as she went over, and the try wasn't given. The game was then called, as the referee had already played well over the scheduled half lengths.
Result
Final score: Dundee 36 – 38 Stirling. A narrow defeat in a thrilling, end-to-end game, and with the overtime and that last-gasp chance, plenty will feel it could have gone either way.
